Pen Cap Necklace

I've been making flower pens as gifts and party favors and kept the pen caps to figure out what I could do with them since I can't put them back on the pens. So I put on my thinking cap and looked at the bag of pen caps that have been accumulating and just couldn't think of anything. I had my daughter help me come up with something we could create or find use for these pen caps. We both came up with some silly ideas and some that just didn't make any sense.

Funny thing is we both came up with the same idea but didn't know how to make it happen. We figured we could make a necklace but how? Well, I took out my trusty glue gun and this is what we came up with:

  

After hot gluing the pen caps together, we each painted our own pen caps. We used acrylic paint to paint our design. Since the pen caps are black, using a light or even bright color wasn't showing very well. We used white paint as the base color and worked around it. Once the paint dried, I inserted 3 strands of crafting thread in different colors through the ends of the pen caps (these pen caps have easy openings at the end). I made the thread long enough and tied the ends together.

We had fun making these. Now if we could only come up with another use for these pen caps...Happy Crafting!
